 * blog displays ‘test’ in browser and I have no idea where it came from.
 * Please help it was displaying ok before this.

   I get your correct 404 page. I suggest looking in your root directory for a file
   like index.html (index.php is the only index page you want) and find out how 
   it got there. If your index.php itself got rewritten then you are in worse trouble.
   If someone can add files to your root directory then you need to find out how
   and fix it. As a minimum, change your host password and ftp password and WordPress
   password.
