 * Just curious if there is a way to use the lightbox with a text link (where the
   link is a direct link to an image)?

 * If you’re asking whether it’s possible to have a link element on your page that
   opens the lightbox when clicked, then no, there is currently no feature that 
   provides that behavior.
 * If you’d like an image to redirect to a URL instead of opening the lightbox, 
   you can use the Gallery Custom Links plugin:
   [https://wordpress.org/plugins/gallery-custom-links/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/gallery-custom-links/)
 * It was specifically designed for that purpose.
