Hi @deeveearr,
I just re-installed this plugin today, and am finding out lots of things about how depraved my visitors are π
πππ
Are there any particular settings to add to the front-end widget to make it more closely mirror the dashboard widget?
Well that depends on what you want to show on the front-end:
- The “Most Viewed” tab by default lists the most viewed posts from the last 7 days.
- The “Most Commented” tab by default lists the most commented posts from the last 7 days.
- The “Trending Now” tab lists the most viewed posts from the last hour.
- The “Hall of Fame” tab lists the most viewed posts all times.
So, which one do you want to display on the front end? Also, are you using the WPP widget, the WPP block, or the [wpp] shortcode?
Hi @hcabrera
Ok then in reverse order:
I’m using the WPP widget in the sidebars.
I’ve set the title for this to ‘Trending Now’, but in the settings it’s set to ‘total views’ with a time range of 24 hours.
The ‘Trending Now’ option in the WPP Settings though is a million miles away from what is being shown.
Oh and I’ve set post, page, portfolio, staff inside the mini-widget in there.
I’ve also enabled the ‘ajaxify widget’ and I’m using WP Rocket for my caching, though I’ve just had a browse around all of their documentation, and there’s no mention of any conflicts between that and WPPP.
Alright, if you want the widget to match what the “Trending Now” section shows on the back-end then change the widget’s Time Range to “Custom” and “1 hour”. You’d also need to change the Post type field to post, page, portfolio, staff as well. After making these changes both lists should show the same posts.
Iβm using WP Rocket for my caching, though Iβve just had a browse around all of their documentation, and thereβs no mention of any conflicts between that and WPPP.
There shouldn’t be any problems as long as you follow the suggestions / recommendations from this FAQ: Is WordPress Popular Posts compatible with caching plugins?
Yes I just found the one hour setting, and it’s looking good on the posts now.
The widget on the pages though seems to be sticking with the old settings.
Probably a caching issue. Try clearing WP Rocket’s cache and check again.
You may also want to have a look at the data cache settings (see Settings > WordPress Popular Posts > Tools, under Data). By default WPP caches data for 2 minute (IIRC) before querying the database again for new information.
I’m flushing and preloading the cache as we speak.
Something else on the page sidebar widget:
The thumbnails and text on the MAIN sidebar widget (the posts one I presume) are all clickable, yet the version added to the PAGE sidebar widget does not have clickable images – just the text.
All of the HTML markup is the same in both of the widgets, so theoretically they should perform the same.
Anyway, we’ll wait on the preload and see what happens.
Dunno, this is really strange.
SOMETIMES but not always, the thumbnails are clickable – it must be a case of letting WPP settle down for a week or so.
Best thing is to try it out on an incognito browser methinks.
Yes, works fine on an incognito browser.
I suppose I’ll need to refresh my browser cache at some point.
Thanks for the assistance @hcabrera
