Title: Theme Customizing Last modified: January 31, 2018 --- # Theme Customizing * [TBotNik](https://wordpress.org/support/users/oldmanriver/) * (@oldmanriver) * [8 years, 3 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/theme-customizing-3/) * All, * WordPress 4.9.2 running Twenty Seventeen Child theme and trying to customize this so it complies with the rules: * Home Page must be not scrollable, Manage your white space, no more than 15%. * So far I cannot properly identify, even with FireFox debugger on, the elements and places to effect. * The first one puts over 1.5″ of white space below the menu, with an “Edit” link in the middle of that, which should be at the bottom of the page. * The second on has 1.5″ of white space for the left and right margins, which then compress the text into the middle, causing violation of rule #1. * Does anyone know what files these are in and what the element names are to edit these? Not sure if there is other white space defined, but violates the no more than 15% white space rule. * Item #2 or anything that “squeezes” text, that makes the “home” page scrollable. The non-scrollable home page rule has been in effect since 1994, and will never change because you loose “stickiness” if the viewer can not see everything they need to know about you and your company at the “first view”! If your issue persists on a page in the theme’s demo site you can provide a link to that page. * Unless there is a bug in the theme, the “why does the theme do things this way” is answered by “it was designed to do that”. * Thread Starter [TBotNik](https://wordpress.org/support/users/oldmanriver/) * (@oldmanriver) * [8 years, 3 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/theme-customizing-3/#post-9930774) * Andrew, * Well if this theme is purposefully designed to increase white space and violate native HTML operations, such as indents, what other theme similar to this one do you have that actually allows us normal HTML operations and control of the white space. * I’ve looked over several of the 20-something themes and chose this one as from the demo it appeared to have everything I needed, but obviously not; as these restrictions did not show in the demo. Realistically, you may have to use another theme that has this control built in. * Looking at the menu bar for example, it is far easier for us to suggest a CSS fix rather than an option to change the colour in the dashboard. Are you okay with this? * Some design features are more difficult to change than others, such as the design of the header image.
