Theme directory is either empty or doesn't exist

    I am switching my production WP site to GoDaddy but first I am setting up a test version on GoDaddy prior to moving it. All files were copied, including the db, but the themes can not be found. I can log into WP ok but there is no option for Appearance/Theme or Editor/Themes so I can reset the themes. I only see my current websites Pages and Categories. The dashboard options are posts, pages, comments, users, and tools. According to GoDaddy support everything looks correct on their end, including seeing the themes and plugins in my wp-content folder.

    As help in figuring out how to get the directory to directory to see the themes would be appreciated.

    Are you able to see the wp-content and its sub-folders via ftp?

    If you can then the problem is most like to be with the admin end of things. Try re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders to your server and see if that resolves the issue for you.

    This error message normally doesn’t mean that the entire themes directory isn’t there, it normally means that the default theme that’s currently set isn’t available. To get around thi sgo into your admin area and select a theme. That should fix the problem.

    Finally got a helpful support person w/I GoDaddy support. He was able to determine that the htaccess file was the problem. He replaced the existing one with a default file. Error message went away and theme appeared.
