    Hi,

My website is not loading correctly.

I see an error message when I open my site: Warning: Illegal string offset ‘custom_css_post_id’ in /home/customer/www/…com/public_html/wp-includes/theme.php on line 1063

When I change to another theme, I don’t get this error message. The menu for customizing this theme is gone as well.

Has there been some sort of update?

    Kind regards,

    Karen

    Hi James,

    This doesn’t work either.
Does it make sense to remove all posts and pages? I didn’t create that much content anyway.

    Kind regards,

    Karen

No, that doesn’t make much sense.

Does the problem continue with all plugins deactivated?

    Hi James,

I see now I see this comment in wordpress as well:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/customer/www/…com/public_html/wp-includes/theme.php:1063) in /home/customer/www/…com/public_html/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 9

For the language tool I also had 2 menus. If I activate that plugin again, the menu is still there.

Thank you for not giving up!

    Kind regards,

    Karen

You have unexpected whitespace (either a space or an entire line) on line 1063 of the /wp-includes/theme.php file. See this guide for more info.

Alternatively, replacing the file with one from a fresh download may resolve the issue.

    Hi James,

I updated it again, but this doesn’t change anything.
    The line is:
    $mods[ $name ] = apply_filters( “pre_set_theme_mod_{$name}”, $value, $old_value );

I have no idea what I should remove.

    Kind regards,

    Karen

And this only happens when you use Twenty Twenty-One?

If so, have you tried reinstalling the theme?

    Hi James,

I already have tried to delete and then install the theme, but this didn’t change anything.

The other themes all seem to work.

    Kind regards,

    Karen

Ok, I simply can’t reproduce the issue myself, but given that description, I guess it has to be specific to the theme somehow, possibly even server environment specific.

Would you please report this via https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/newticket ?

Please use the “Bundled Theme” component and start the Summary field with Twenty Twenty-One:

The developers will take a look from there.

    Hi James,

    I’ve sent the ticket.
Thank you for all your help!

You get a virtual potato (Belgian fries style) from me!

    Kind regards,

Just noting here that’s over at https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/ticket/53352
