 * Didn’t WP use to have it setup so the page or home file could be duplicated and
   made into a template variation or new template within a template ? Has it changed?
 * when creating a page you use to be able to assign a page to a template

 * [Pages](http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages) are assigned Page Templates. If you
   don’t see the Page Template dbx in your Write->Page screen then your current
   theme doesn’t have a template file that contains the correct structure at the
   beginning of the file. Example: this structure (taken from the link.php from
   the WordPress Default 1.6 theme):
 *     ```
       <?php
       /*
       Template Name: Links
       */
       ?>
       ```
