    Hello, My site has been using a custom theme for well over 2 years without any trouble. Today I saw that my site no longer displays any style at all, it’s like a blank white textpad with my content on it.

    I’ve tried everything I can think of:
    * restored database backup from 2 days ago
    * scanned for malware
    * deactivated every plugin
    * switched to default 2014 theme

    Nothing in the above list has worked. Strange that even the default themes are showing no color, no style and still behaving like a blank textpad. I would sure appreciate any help with this!

    Site is http://www.reacheurasia.com

    Thank you!

    Your theme’s stylesheet is returning an error 404, not found: http://reacheurasia.com/wp-content/themes/ReachEurasia/style.css

    Have you tried re-installing the theme?

    Made that theme with Artisteer a few years ago, hopefully I can find a backup. Meanwhile, I noticed the default themes are doing the same thing, is that a deeper issue than reinstalling a theme?

    I’m not 100% sure. Try reinstalling the Twenty Fourteen theme. Does that allow you to use that theme?

    Edit: Sorry, nevermind coffee is kicking in just now 🙂

    This is bad, I know but I’m not sure how to install a theme it says is already there, and I don’t see a way to uninstall Twenty Fourteen.

    Ok, deleted and reinstalled Twenty Fourteen but it didn’t change anything. I have no idea how this happened since it worked fine up until yesterday.

    I left Twenty Fourteen active for now.

    What do you have set as the two URLs at Setthings -> General in your blog’s Dashboard?

    Hm, in that case I wonder if one of the core files may have been corrupted. Unlikely though, a 404 is a 404, but just so we can definitely rule that out, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Ok, this one is currently hosted at Godaddy. To clarify, should I use their control panel to do this or better to use FTP and upload everything new except wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory?

    I deleted all except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory and uploaded all fresh stuff. No change 🙁

    Problem solved, more or less. I still have no clue what the cause was, but I restored from the GoDaddy control panel a complete backup from a few days ago and all themes and images loaded right away.

    Now… I will search for a new web host 😉

    Update:

    I found the culprit: It’s iThemes Security. When I updated it just now I got the same broken themes result. How do I best inform them?

    I may have been mistaken. When I updated iThemes Security, it certainly resulted in the broken themes/images issue. I quickly restored a full backup once again, leaving iThemes deactivated. I proceeded to swap an image on a page and guess what… broken theme again! Finally, I restored to an even older date from last week, activated and updated iThemes Security, swapped that image again and so far so good. This has been an enormous stumper!
