 * OK so I originally gave this plugin a very harse review, I installed it on both
   my localhost and my production versions of WP, but I couldn’t get it to work
   using 4 different browsers.
 * My biggest issue is the lack of documention.
 * Like many others I finally got the thing to work, and I will be posting how later,
   but for now, it does work and seems to do what it claims, (will have to see over
   time).
 * I gave it 4 stars for now, minus the 1 for having to fiddle around so much to
   get it working.

 * Considering that this plugin has more than 40,000 active installations, I got
   a little curious here. So I downloaded and installed the plugin on my local installation,
   and it worked beautifully. Actually I think it will be quite useful for me in
   the future, so I’m keeping it.
 * Now, take a moment to consider the facts here: So many people are using it, and
   at this moment it has 557 five star ratings. Could there be something wrong with
   your setup? Did you even post a question in the support forum?
 * My guess is that you have the admin bar disabled, but it could be something else
   of course. If you don’t reply, we’ll never know …

 * I have no clue what is wrong with it, and yes it is very well could be that I
   don’t have something turned on or configured properly, but if the documention
   and install instructions were worth anything then perhaps I would have it working
   and be as happy with it as you are.
 * My review isn’t based as much on the thing not working as it is on the lack of
   documention/instructions, to me they “assume” that everyone is an expert with
   Word Press, which I am NOT, having read thru all the support entries I can see
   I am not the only one that has had issues getting it to work, but unlike the
   others I just haven’t figured out what is wrong, and all the answers you provided
   to other users didn’t help me either, seems they just figured it out on their
   own….sooo.
 * OK so I replied, now what?

 * As the plugin states in the description and shows in all the images: “What The
   File adds an option to your toolbar showing what file and template parts are
   used to display the page you’re currently viewing.”
 * I’m not sure what documentation you need for that. Could you maybe post a screenshot
   of your toolbar?
 * Here is [a screenshot of mine, for reference](https://bjornjohansen.no/content/uploads/2018/03/Skjermbilde-2018-03-09-kl.-22.28.22.png).

 * For the record, there is documentation on the plugin page. See the “FAQ” section.
 * You do realize that Barry created and released this plugin for free? You are
   not doing him any favors by using it. You are not entitled to get any documentation(
   even though you do have access to it) nor support. Still, here you have a fellow
   WordPress user trying to help you in his spare time on a Friday night.

 * Well the only time I see the toolbar is when I am at the Dashboard, and I got
   a screenshot of it, but not sure how to post it.

 * So … You are complaining, with an attitude, that this plugin didn’t add a menu
   item to your toolbar, but you don’t even have a toolbar?
 * First thing you should fix is that your toolbar isn’t showing, then. It could
   have been disabled programmatically by your theme (most likely) or a plugin.
   It could also be a user setting in your profile.
 * If you go to /wp-admin/profile.php, make sure that “Show Toolbar when viewing
   site” is checked. If it’s already checked, your theme has probably disabled it
   for some reason. You could try a different theme, if you’re ok with that.

 * Hey don’t get snippy with me, I already said I knew I might not have things setup
   right on my end, but none of this is explained in the documention, that is my
   biggest complaint. I wil have a look at it, and will also try another theme if
   need be.

 * It is pretty clear that it “adds an option to your toolbar”. I copied that verbatim.
 * Next time you should try the support forums first. People are usually very friendly
   there and happy to help out. I’m just helping you to prove you wrong because
   you left such a condescending and ungrateful comment. You didn’t even try to
   get help, or considered the thought that it might be something on your end, before
   you lashed out.

 * Oh yes I tried to find help, I looked thru all the documention, install instructions
   and support comments.
 * Moving on, yes my profile does say to show the toolbar when viewing my site,
   but it doesn’t, but then I can’t seem to change the theme atm either, uggggggggggs,
   nothing about using WordPress is easy, I had to get them to do a manual install
   earlier today.
 * I have spent enough time fooling with this, if and when I get it fixed and working
   I might revise my review, it all depends on how much I have to go thru to get
   it working, for now, it does NOT work.

 * It does not work in the sense that you bought a turbo charger, but you don’t
   even have a car, and you’re complaining about the turbo charger not doing anything.
 * The plugin description clearly states that it “adds an option to your toolbar”.
   All the images shows how it adds an option to the toolbar. But you don’t even
   have a toolbar. What exactly did you think that this plugin would do for you?
   If you just enable the toolbar (which must be specifically disabled) you’ll see
   that you’ll have a new option there.

 * Bjorn,
 * I am actually a very nice person, but I can be extremely outspoken when things
   that should be simple turn out to be a royal pain.
 * As I stated I got it to work, (on my own TYVM) and revised my review.
 * Consider this issue closed.

 * I’m glad this was resolved and I’m also glad this didn’t escalate.
 * [@bjornjohansen](https://wordpress.org/support/users/bjornjohansen/), Thank you
   for spending your time and effort to help out. I just have to ask you not to
   make personal remarks.
 * A review is a reflection of someone’s experience with a theme or plugin. Reviews
   are very handy for theme or plugin authors when gauging their real user needs.
   That’s all there is to it.
 * If you were concerned about the 1 star rating, don’t be. Nobody should be looking
   at reviews in terms of number of stars because this isn’t a marketplace. It’s
   a community resource.

 * I think Bjorn did a great job here and I appreciate it a lot. I’m also very happy
   to see the user managed to get it to work.
 * I just wanted to reply to this

 * I’m not sure if this is the “intention” of reviews but myself and lot of others
   definitely use reviews (in terms of numbers of stars) to judge the quality of
   a plugin. I am concerned about the amount of 1 star reviews we get and so is
   every plugin developer I know.

 * You and everyone judging a plugin on its star ratings* are using the review system
   the wrong way and are missing out. Really. Read the reviews and don’t just look
   at the star ratings.

 * Hi Barry,
 * I know that getting a bad review for _volunteer supported, free opensource code,
   supported on your own time, plugin authors are volunteers also, is akin to being
   told “YOUR CHILDREN ARE UGLY”_ but these reviews really are just feedback.
 * _*Re-reads*_
 * Yes, I was being a little thick and syrupy but in a good way. 😉
 * Please, try not to take them seriously. No one needs to get a perfect score here.
   When people do, I get a twitch and start looking.
 * This review worked out in the best way and as Bjørn demonstrated are read by
   many people.
