Have an admin or somebody with high privileges edit a post. The admin closes the post. The listing in a users account with lesser privileges, specifically non publishing privs sees a notice that this post is being edited when it is not. When they clicked “edit” they get the “Do you want to take over screen”.

For testing purposes, I deactivated all plugins except members and changed the theme to WP 2021 theme. It still happens.

Problem goes away when I deactivate members. The problem is in this plugin

    Thank you for your time

    Hi @ilenejohnson

That sounds like default WordPress behavior. It takes a few minutes for WordPress to realize that a post is no longer being edited. This works on a time interval. Eventually, it picks up that a post is no longer being edited, and will let someone else edit without throwing that warning.

Please read my initial post carefully. When I removed your plugin the behavior stopped.

I also removed all other plugins and left your plugin and still had the same problem.

The message stays well after the other author has left

Sorry for the long delay in response.

I’m not sure what happens that the “Do you want to take over screen” pops up only when Members plugin is on as we don’t have any functionality that could cause this. Maybe the timing of you deactivating Members coincided with WordPress releasing the editor lock. This functionality is a native WordPress behavior. It’s intended to prevent editing collisions. Here’s a good summary of it. https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/71603/if-two-users-attempt-to-modify-a-page-does-wordpress-still-work-correctly.
