Every product shows This value is not valid [gtin]

Our company use internal GTIN codes to manage our products but Google for woocommcer identify them as “not valid” We have hundreds os products and we cannot chnage the GTIN.

There is some way to avoid this error?

  • Hi @fredbra,

Thank you for reaching out and for the clarification. I understand that issues like this can be both confusing and frustrating, especially when you’re managing a large catalog of products.

To clarify, Google requires valid GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers) that match its database of registered manufacturer codes such as UPC, EAN, JAN, or ISBN. Since your internal codes are not part of that registry, Google automatically flags them as invalid and displays the message “This value is not valid [gtin].”

If you don’t have valid GTINs, an approach you can try though not recommended is brand+MPN. First you’ll need to remove the GTIN attribute entirely and instead provide two identifiers: your Brand name and an MPN (Manufacturer Part Number). You can use your internal product code as the MPN. Google recognizes the combination of Brand and MPN as a valid alternative to GTIN, ensuring your products remain eligible for listing.

For the Google for WooCommerce plugin (the official integration), here’s what you should do. Go to Marketing → Google for WooCommerce → Attributes. Unmap or remove the GTIN field or its mapping. It’s also a good idea to bulk-edit your products in WooCommerce to clear any existing GTIN values you’ve entered.

Next, make sure your internal product code is entered in the SKU field at the product level. Then, map this SKU field to MPN in the Google attributes section. Finally, create brand entries for your products if you haven’t already, assign each product a brand, and then resync your product feed.

To clarify, providing brand and MPN is strongly recommended, especially for branded products, as it helps Google identify and match products accurately. However, products without a GTIN are at a disadvantage, and performance may be limited because Google prioritizes products that have them.

We can’t delete our internal GTINs because we use them in our POS system. I’ve already mapped the attributes like this:

    MPN: product:sku

    Brand: Our brand name

Its correct? How can we make this work?

    Hi @fredbra,

Thank you for following up and for the clarification. You can unmap the GTIN field by going to Marketing → Google for WooCommerce → Attributes and removing the mapping if it’s currently set. If you’ve already done that and allowed a few days for the sync to complete but the issue persists, it would be best to consult a Google Merchant Center specialist for further guidance on GTIN handling and attribute mapping.

The Google for WooCommerce plugin functions primarily as a connection tool between your store and Google Merchant Center. However, matters related to compliance, GTIN validation, or custom mapping approaches fall outside the plugin’s standard support scope. These require expertise in Google Merchant policies and data feed configuration rather than plugin functionality.

Since the plugin itself is working correctly, this appears to be a Google Merchant compliance matter rather than a core plugin issue. A qualified Google Ads or Merchant Center specialist should be able to provide the right assistance with mapping or replacing invalid GTIN values.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I dint map any value to the GTIN. This message is showing “This value is not valid [gtin]” for some products with any mapping. But i have followed your directions.

Few of my products are already approved on Google Merchant Cent but whe i look for them on google they dont show.

    What can be wrong?

    Hi @fredbra,

    Thank you for the clarification.

Please go to Marketing > Google for WooCommerce > Product Feed and check if any errors appear there. If you see any, take a screenshot and share it with us via snipboard.io.

Next, kindly share your System Status Report by navigating to WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support, then paste the content into pastebin.com and share the link here.

Additionally, click the Logs tab on the Status page and look for any fatal error logs or logs related to Google for WooCommerce. Please share those as well via Pastebin.

Once we have these details, it’ll be much easier to continue troubleshooting or direct you through the most appropriate support channel.

    Hello,

the products are already aproved on the GOOGLE MERCHANT CENTER so they should be shown when i look for them in google search right?

    Awesome @fredbra,

I’m glad to see your products are synced to Google Merchant Center and approved. Great job!

To address your question: approval in Google Merchant Center does not automatically guarantee your products will appear in Google Search right away. Approval simply means your products meet Google’s policies and data requirements, making them eligible to show. When and where they appear depends on factors such as:

    • Product data quality and relevance
    • Search volume for related keywords
    • Competition from other listings
    • Bidding for paid Shopping ads
    • Feed freshness and optimization

To check if your products are live:

    1. Go to Google Merchant Center → Products → All Products and look at the Destination column to see where your products are eligible, for example, “Free listings” or “Shopping ads.”
    2. Use the “See how your listing appears” preview on the product details page.
    3. Search the exact product title in Google Search, as new listings may not yet appear for general keywords.

It can take 24 to 72 hours after approval for products to start showing in free listings or ads. Please note that the Google for WooCommerce plugin only syncs your products to Merchant Center. Visibility, frequency, and timing are controlled by Google. If your products are not appearing as expected, Google support is the best point of contact.

I will mark this thread as resolved since your products are now synced. Meanwhile, if you found the guidance helpful, we would greatly appreciate a quick review here: WooCommerce Reviews
