@jglefler: that shouldn’t happen – could you please post an example of this behavior? I’d really appreciate it, thanks!
Thanks so much for the kind response Aesqe. I saw another post here where someone else is having the same problem.
Thanks
Here’s an example.

Sorry for the delayed response and I appreciate your prompt reply. I will try to post a link to an example again.

@jglefler: that’s normal WordPress behavior if the image size you chose for the gallery thumbnails is not of exact dimensions (meaning, it’s not getting cropped, just resized).
To illustrate, here’s how three default WP themes, Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen and Twenty Fourteen display a gallery using this shortcode [gallery columns="3" size="medium"] – with no plugins enabled:

If you want your galleries to look uniform, with all thumbnails of same size, you’ll need to choose an appropriate thumbnail size for gallery display.
Hi Aesqe,
Thanks so much for the response. Here’s what’s strange. Up until about 90 days ago I had most of these same photos in this gallery and it cropped them and made all the thumbnails uniform for nearly 600 images in this gallery. File gallery worked beautifully. Then, for some unknown reason, these same images started to show the varying sized thumbnails. I thought it was due to an issue with a WordPress update or some such thing.
When you say, “If you want your galleries to look uniform, with all thumbnails of same size, you’ll need to choose an appropriate thumbnail size for gallery display” would you mind telling me the steps to take to achieve this?
Thanks

@jglefler: can you tell me what is the exact shortcode you’re using for this gallery?
Hi Aesqe,
Sorry but it sounds like I don’t understand fully how to use this plugin and was, perhaps, only getting lucky with the great result I got for a couple of years using it. I don’t even use any short code that I am aware of. At least I never manually inserted any short code in the post as some gallery plugins require. I simply went to the post and File Gallery would show all of the available images below the post. I would either select “Insert Gallery” or I would select a number of images by “cont + click” and then select “Insert Single Files”. That would be it. The plugin would insert the images into the post automatically without me adding any short code. When I would update the post it would show perfectly on the blog with all of the thumbnails evenly sized at about 1″ wide by 3/4″ high. I have “jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries” installed and when I would click on any of the thumbnails they would show in a lightbox, one at a time, in their various original sizes as a full size image.
I have searched the Internet, including YouTube, for a File Gallery tutorial but, surprisingly, I haven’t been able to find any. There are scads of tutorials for lesser quality image gallery plugins out there but I can’t find any for this excellent plugin.
Thanks
