 * Hi,
 * I’m using a template that is only partially translated due to additions of my
   own. However I’d like to add some strings to the .po files and translate them
   in different languages.
 * I’ve noticed all strings are called with `<?php _e('String',my_themename); ?>`,
   but I’m confused on how to add the string to the existing translation files.
   I have not yet been able to find a good source to answer my question. Could anybody
   give a hint?
 * thnx!

 * You need to use a translation tool like [PoEdit](http://www.poedit.net/).

 * Do you mean how to do the translation via [Poedit](http://www.poedit.net/)?
 * Just download the program and translate.
 * To create the .po file, [this link](http://blog-en.icanlocalize.com/installing-wordpress-for-multiple-language-blogs/how-to-localize-wordpress-themes-and-plugins-with-gettext/)
   might be of help?
 * You could use their tool to add the strings to an existing .po file.

 * I new about PoEdit indeed. However I was looking for a way to add more strings
   to the .po files which I could then make a translation for.
 * The tool and link might just do the trick, thnx!

 * I think that you are perhaps looking at this from the wrong direction. All you
   need to do is add the new strings to the theme. Then use PoEdit to update the.
   po file and save the new version.

 * Ok so I can use PoEdit to update the .po file? How would that work? I have been
   looking for that solution, but only found the opportunity to update the .po from
   the .pot file. Which I don’t have.
    Is this a manual solution? Then what about
   that link? Is that wrong? Or just a more automated way of doing things? It seems
   I could just upload the .php I’ve added a string to and the tool does the magic?
