Turn Off Automatic Gallery

Is there a way to turn off the automatic gallery? I am using the plugin bit differently. I am applying a link to TEXT with the data-rel=”lightbox” added.

My text is for a menu and I want to show an image of the entree if it is available. But it is a bit more complex then that. There is a dine-in and take-out menu on the page that share data. Each of these areas also has different way of displaying the menu areas on mobile. So one entree is actually pulled four times from the database. This is causing a gallery of the same image to come up when I use the plugin. I just want to turn the gallery completely OFF.

Can that be done? If so, how?

If it can be done by altering the plugin .php code, can it be done via a Child Theme for the plugin so updates don’t erase the code alterations?
