# Two issues.

 * General Facts:
    Currently running WP.4.5.2 via Godaddy’s WP Dedicated server.
 * **A)**
    Historically, I’ve been running NextGen 1.9.3 and using short codes similar
   to this one. [nggallery id=doe9], [nggallery id=doe8]
 * When GD/WP wants me to upgrade to NextGen 2.1.31, all of my galleries(est 675)
   stop showing up.
    The only way to get them to reapear has been to reload/overwrite
   NextGen 1.9.3
 * Is there a function I can add, that allows the old shortcodes to continue to
   work?
 * **B)**
    Around October, the NG stopped functioning and GD tweaked it so that
   it worked. I do not know what they did, they don’t have notes listed. But ever
   since then instead of being in the WP/Content/Gallery folder, the folders are
   being created in the WP Root.. Doe9, Doe8, using the example from above. What
   can be done so that they are back inside the Conent/Gallery folder and functioning.
 * Thanks, in advance

 * [@packeo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/packeo/) – NextGEN Gallery does
   not currently support the use of the gallery slug for the `id` in shortcodes,
   you will need to use the gallery ID. There is no current method to change this
   functionality in general … it’s something we may look into but it will not be
   in the near future.
 * As to the issues that appear to have been created by GoDaddy, I cannot say what
   they may have done and we may not be able to do anything about it either, but
   it could also be as simple as reviewing the settings you have under Gallery >
   Other Options > Image Options for the “default” gallery path …

 * I get that gallery [nggallery id=doe9] is also gallery 321 for example, but,
   basically what you are saying the 675 posts I’ve made using NextGen, by naming
   a gallery and inserting that name in are useless, and I will have to manually
   fix all 675?
 * Yet, when I go in to a post that I created the old way, and click the new button
   to add a gallery, it’s still named doe 9, it inserts and functions perfectly,
   yet the short code doesn’t work?
 * It simply doesn’t make sense. If it reverted every gallery to 321,322 etc, but
   with the names doe9, doe8, etc still in place. It doesn’t.
 * I appreciate the response, but I can’t say it helped.
 * B)
    Yeah I figured you wouldn’t have an idea of what Godaddy did. I looked at
   the location you mentioned and it is now set up correctly. The two new posts
   I made yesterday are in Gallery/Images but when view the folder via filezilla
   they aren’t there. They show up on the site, just not in the folder tree. So
   I don’t know.
 * Thanks

 * [@https](https://wordpress.org/support/users/https/)://wordpress.org/support/
   profile/packeo – At the moment, unfortunately, you will need to update those
   675 inserted displays … there is just no way around that currently.
 * As to these comments:
 * > Yet, when I go in to a post that I created the old way, and click the new button
   > to add a gallery, it’s still named doe 9, it inserts and functions perfectly,
   > yet the short code doesn’t work?
   > It simply doesn’t make sense. If it reverted every gallery to 321,322 etc,
   > but with the names doe9, doe8, etc still in place. It doesn’t.
 * I’m not sure I understand what you are describing … are you referring to the
   IGW (“green button”) which is creating an `<img>` tag placeholder, or something
   else?
 * As to the file directory / folder structure issue(s), I cannot say what is going
   on there but if the displays are working as expected then I would have to work
   from the premise that the settings are correct for your site and its configuration.
 * Thanks!

 * 1
    I was referring to the green “attach” next gen gallery button to the post
   button inside the post (new or edit) dash board.
 * It’s the button that opens up the NGG to allow you to select Thumbnails/slide
   show etc.
 * When I go to the 2nd line “What would you like to display”. I’m typing in Doe9,
   doe8,thomas1,jones4, whatever the name of the corresponding gallery that was
   previously used as [nggallery id=doe9], [nggallery id=doe8] I felt the need to
   name them, so I could tell one for the other as opposed to 321,322,323 as I added
   new content to the site.
 * I’m sure I’m not alone in using [nggallery id=doe9], [nggallery id=doe8], to
   insert galleries, and the fact that I still go in and type in doe9 for it to
   come up as opposed to 321,322,323. I simply don’t understand why that function
   vanished.

    I feel like I’ve resolved issue two, basically moving the folders that were
   outside of the content/gallery folder inside of them, then correcting the route
   inside the gallery so that they would show up properly(after, I had to go back
   and insert them into the post which is the issue above).
 * Hope this image helps explain part 1 better.

 * [@packeo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/packeo/) – The IGW (“green button”)
   populates the source field with appropriate items. The ability to type in those
   names is part of the auto-complete code we employ there. Using the IGW will create
   a `<img>` tag “placeholder” which NextGEN Gallery uses to reference all of the
   settings you use in the IGW inserted display.
 * Shortcodes work differently than the IGW. The current versions of NextGEN Gallery
   now require the use of the gallery IDs … we have looked into this (although we
   have not spent a great deal of time on it) and to change this behavior would
   likely require quite extensive time and resources to refactor all of the code
   involved. This may happen in a future update where we are considering a shortcode“
   generator” but as it is, unfortunately, it will not be anytime soon that we add
   this feature set to shortcodes on their own.

 * Thanks, it’s just frustrating that I’ve used the product for a number of years,
   creating 675 galleries, to know that it’s basically useless and only one step
   above from having to start over fresh.
 * I’m sure I’m not alone.

 * [@packeo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/packeo/) – I can appreciate the
   frustration this would create and we would much prefer those using our plugin
   are using the most current releases of it, we just do not have a “quick fix”
   to offer at the moment.

 * I just don’t see how it made sense to eliminate it to start with.

 * [@packeo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/packeo/) – I’m going to continue
   to look into this but I still expect at best it will be some time before we could
   re-implement this option.

 * Don’t bother.
    I’m 63% into manually editing each post that was disrupted. A
   couple hundred more to go.
 * I just can’t and won’t understand why it was feasible to remove it when there
   has to be a large # of users that name their galleries and inserted them into
   posts via that method.

 * [@packeo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/packeo/) – Unfortunately, I do
   not have an answer for why, and we do not have a reference to the number of users
   that chose this alternative method of referencing their galleries by slug versus
   the default ID.
 * Thanks for the update!
