# Typepad/WP conversion: after export posts don’t display

 * I’ve tried to follow the codex instructions for an MT/WP conversion. Using my
   ftp program & notepad, I changed the import-mt.php file by adding the .txt file
   name to the code as the instructions stated. I made sure the txt file was encoded
   with utf 8 as advised. The codex says to call the txt file “import” but I called
   it “wp.” That shouldn’t make a diff. should it?
 * Since the codex does not make clear which folder the .txt file needs to be uploaded
   to, I uploaded it to the public html folder & to the wp-admin folder. Should
   it go into a diff. folder? When I go to this URL ( [http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/](http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/))
   I don’t see the posts.
 * I should add that my domain name is still pointing to my Typepad site since I
   want to work on my WP site & get it right BEFORE I point my domain to my WP host.
 * So I’ve configured something wrong & don’t have a clue what it is. I’d be grateful
   for suggestions on how to fix this.

 * Actually, I can see your site. It is just not finding your css file.

 * In order for the import file to work, it says in the directions to have it in
   the same file as the import-mt.php file, which is the wp-admin, if memory serves.
 * I went through a similar process converting my static hmtl files into an import
   file matching MT’s export and documented some of my trauma [on my site](http://www.cameraontheroad.com/?p=591),
   and something there might help you, too.
 * There are very good instructions on how to do this at
    [http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_from_Movable_Type_to_WordPress](http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_from_Movable_Type_to_WordPress)

 * “Actually, I can see your site. It is just not finding your css file.”
 * That’s tantalizing, but could you give me some idea of how I can make it “find”
   the css file?

 * [@richards1052](https://wordpress.org/support/users/richards1052/):
    To be able
   to view your site temporily, you must set WordPress Address URI and Blog Address
   URI to [http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/](http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/)
 * This is the reason why wordpress cannot see your css file because it is using
   the [http://richardsilverstein.com](http://richardsilverstein.com) instead of
   [http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/](http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/)

 * “you must set WordPress Address URI and Blog Address URI to [http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/&#8221](http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/&#8221);
 * That sounds like the answer I’ve been looking for but…I’m a newbie & don’t have
   a clue how to do what you’re suggesting. Pls. give me some specific directions
   on how to do this…

 * Go to your Admin panel, go to Options. You can find it there.

 * I can’t access my admin panel. When I type [http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/admin](http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/admin)
   into my browser address field I get an error. And I can’t get there using [http://richardsilverstein.com/admin](http://richardsilverstein.com/admin)
   since my domain isn’t yet pointing to WP. Is there any alternate way to get to
   my admin panel or am I doing this totally wrong?

   and enter your username and password

 * Ok, thanks a little progress…
 * But when I click Options I get this error:
 * “The requested URL /wp-admin/options-general.php was not found on this server.”
 * Any other alternatives?
 * I really don’t want to point my domain to WP until my new blog is ready for prime
   time. But if I have to to get this working right then maybe that’s what I’ll
   have to do…

 * You have logged in? You’re getting there. I think options-general.php is not
   in your wp-admin directory. If you have a wordpress files with you on your local
   pc, you can delete the wp-admin directory in your webserver and replace it with
   the one in your pc. That’ll resolve the missing files. For now.

 * Omigod, I don’t know how to do any of this, but I’m gonna try…
 * I had my WP auto-installed through my webhost, Bluehost. So I don’t think I have
   anything on my pc.
 * On 2nd thought, I think I may’ve downloaded a WP install to my desktop last wk.
   before I decided to do the auto-install through the webhost. But I haven’t used
   it, opened it or installed it.
 * Will it still work if I replace the options-general.php file on the server with
   the one in the wp folder on my desktop?
 * Or would it just be easier to point my Typepad domain name to my wp blog & be
   done with these complications? This would mean however, that my blog will essentially
   be down until I get the wp version up & running.

 * What did you use to install WP in your webhost? Fantastico?

 * Yes.
 * BTW, I just uploaded the options-general.php file from my desktop to the webserver
   via ftp & overwrote the same file there. I went back to the admin panel & refreshed.
   The options screen still won’t open.

 * You can delete the wp-admin directory and its content. And upload a new wp-admin
   directory.
    If it still not showing I guess you’ll just have to reinstall your
   WP installation. You can do this in Fantastico as well. This time you could put
   the correct URL’s.

 * It’s prob. easier just to point my domain to WP & away from my Typepad blog &
   be done with all this complication.
 * I just wish bluehost.com had been more aware of the complications they caused.
   I was very explicit when I registered w. them earlier today concerning what I
   was trying to do (e.g. have my wp blog eventually point to my domain but wanting
   to wait to do this until that blog was ready for prime time) & I don’t think
   they really listened to help me avoid this mess.
