I have recently moved my WordPress installation to a new host (I’m running v2.1.3) and everything WordPress-wise is running sweetly. 🙂

However, neither the WP-Cache (v2.1.1) or WordPress Database Backup (v2.1.1) Plugins will work because neither can write to the “wp-content” directory. I have gone so far as to set the permissions on that directory to “777” in an attempt to get things working, but in all cases the Plugins are unable to either create subdirectories of “wp-content” or write files into “wp-content”

I’m slightly at a loss as to what to do next. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • I’ve had this problem before too. I’ve set permissions on wp-content to 775 then try to write to plugin folder no luck. I have to change permissions on every subfolder in the wp-content folder before it would work.

Talk to the host, find out why they can’t do that.

Nobody can help you but the host.

I’ve finally had a reply from my host. They are saying that:

I don’t think the issue is file permissions as the permissions are very liberal. I suspect it may be that the software you are using does not work with safe mode which is enabled on our server.

I’m not aware that WordPress or the Plugins do anything odd so why would this be the case?
