# Uncaught Error: Syntax error

 * Hello
 * So this is kind of weird. I have a few self-hosted wordpress sites, with several
   themes and plugins combinations. I open them in either Microsoft Edge or Google
   Chrome and in the pages where I have tabs for plugin options, I get errors like
   this (plus, those tabs don’t even open):

 * What bugs me out is this happens in several browsers and in several wordpress
   sites, that have several different themes and plugins combinations.

 * Try [manually resetting your plugins](https://wordpress.org/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus)(
   no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one
   individually until you find the cause.
 * If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via [SFTP or FTP](https://wordpress.org/support/article/ftp-clients/),
   or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting
   provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/
   and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the 
   default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme
   functions can interfere like plugins).

 * I found the culprit: Cookie Notice and Consent Banner. I posted a comment in 
   their own forums. Meanwhile I disabled that and installed a new cookie banner
   plugin.
