XNAU,

My users will be creating their own unique username, seperate from their WordPress username. Is there a way to check against the plugin’s database to ensure the username they desire has not already been taken? Thanks.

yes, go to the plugin settings under the “signup form” tab and take a look a the “duplicate field preference” settings.
