Update caused critical error

After updating the plugin to version 5.0.4 and WordPress 5.8 our website is now experience critical errors.

Namely:

WordPress version 5.8
Current theme: Altus (version 1.0)
Current plugin: Really Simple SSL (version 5.0.4) PHP version 5.6.40

Error Details
=============
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 17 of the file /home/***/public_html/wp-content/plugins/really-simple-ssl/lets-encrypt/cron.php. Error message: Call to a member function generated_by_rsssl() on null

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @wattsyourwebsite,

thanks for reporting the issue. I have create a fix for this here:
https://github.com/Really-Simple-Plugins/really-simple-ssl/

The issue was a cron job, which didn’t load the required class to run the cron.

Would be great if you can confirm this resolves it.

After some more tests we will be releasing it today.

I actually updated the PHP version and that seemed to fix the issue for me.

@rodrigolampugnani this is a warning, which you can safely ignore. This warning is generated when the permissions check runs, but the permissions are limited.

On which page in Really Simple SSL do you get this warning?

Is SSL activated on your website in Really Simple SSL? Are there any notices on your dashboard in settings/ssl?

And which version of Really Simple SSL are you now on? 5.0.5?

What other plugins do you have active? Do you have any specific configurations in your wp-config.php that might cause a cron job to run on each page request?

I’ve noticed that a cron job may run the lets encrypt class, even if the certificate is not generated by Really Simple SSL. This is now fixed here:
