 * hello
 * i am the webmaster of this site but i have no idea where it is hosted
 * i have the ftp adress and never use it : ftp://ftp.maynats.org
 * the problem is, i need to update php, because it is said on wordpress that it
   seems to be important
 * i have two options :
 * a) someone can help me, only with the ftp adress given below (i have the codes
   also), to find who hosts the website
 * b) i save all the website, and we find an other hoster for the website ; it should
   not be expensive because the site represents a tiny cultural association
 * if anyone can help me for a) or b), or has any idea for a c)…
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fupdate-php-5%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Hi there!
 * In order to update the PHP version you will need to have access to the server
   that resides in. If you are using a hosting company like Dreamhost, GoDaddy,
   or the like, you can find the documentation on their end to see how that can
   be done.

 * hi
 * thanks for the answer
 * my email was explaning that i have access to the ftp (that i never use) but i
   dont know where it is hosted
 * my skills in informatics are too weak to let me know if : accessing to the ftp
   can give information to where it is hosted
 * it is the website of an association, the person who initially created the website
   is not reachable
 * so i come back with my a), and b) questions 🙂

 * According to [https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/maynats.org](https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/maynats.org)
   you’re hosting with [https://www.ovhcloud.com](https://www.ovhcloud.com) and
   you can find their support at [https://help.ovhcloud.com](https://help.ovhcloud.com)

 * hello
 * endly i have found, thanks to you, the identifier + wordpass for ovh
 * now i have first to save the website but this page [https://wpfr.net/guide-demarrage-debutants/](https://wpfr.net/guide-demarrage-debutants/),
   and this page [https://fr.wordpress.org/support/article/update-php/](https://fr.wordpress.org/support/article/update-php/),
   althought it is written “for beginners”, are clearly difficult to me.
 * Is there a very simple “howto for dummies” that would explain to me, step by
   step, even in english, maybe thought a video, how to save the website and update
   php ?
 * thanks…

 * You need to consult your hosting provider’s documentation about this, not WordPress’s
   documentation.
 * WordPress does not control PHP, your hosting provider does, and how you control
   PHP under your hosting provider varies greatly depending on your hosting provider.
 * If you’re really with OVH, then follow this guide: [https://help.ovhcloud.com/csm/en-web-hosting-change-php-version?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0053014#setting-ovh-manager](https://help.ovhcloud.com/csm/en-web-hosting-change-php-version?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0053014#setting-ovh-manager)

 * hello
 * i have found
 * indeed it was very simple for a person who would still have skills (juste click
   on a button) but very long for me (finding the button…)
 * i have upgraded the php version of to 7.3 (it was 5.x). The website still works
 * But (and comes my question) : i had first tried to upgrade to 8.0 since it was
   proposed ; i have then noticed that the page was blanck. Does it mean that our
   wordpress website is not compatible with php>=8 ? So my question : one day in
   the future, i guess we will have to upgrade php to 8.x or more. In anticipation
   i ask : what will be to do this day : recreating the whole website ?….. Maybe
   the webmaster won’t be me so i try to prepare the field for my successor
 * thanks

 * WordPress is compatible with PHP 8.0: [https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/references/php-compatibility-and-wordpress-versions/](https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/references/php-compatibility-and-wordpress-versions/)
 * But your plugins, or theme, might not be.
 * Try PHP 8.0 again, and if you see a blank page again, try [manually resetting your plugins](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus)(
   no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one
   individually until you find the cause.
 * If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via [SFTP or FTP](https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/upgrade/ftp/),
   or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting
   provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/
   and rename the directory of your currently active theme. Hopefully, this will
   force the default theme to activate and rule out a theme-specific issue (theme
   functions can interfere like plugins).
 * Once you find the plugin or theme causing the problem, contact that plugin’s
   or theme’s support.
