Update wordpress to version 3.8 with Bulletproof Security free plugin

Currently I am using wordpress 3.6.1 with free plugin Bulletproof Security version .49.2

I want to update wordpress version 3.8 and free plugin Bulletproof Security version .49.8

I am new to this, so I am not sure exactly how to do it.

– to update wordpress version do I have to deactivate Bulletproof Security Plugin as well as delete it
OR do I follow any other steps?

Please guide me how to to all these (should I update plugin version first? – or delete and download new after updating wordpress version?)
