 * I’d really like to use this plugin, but see that it has not been updated for 
   quite a while and it is not tested with recent versions of WordPress.
 * Can you please advise if you are planning to release an updated version?

   use your plugin for a local volunteer library, but I want to make sure it will

 * I’m still maintaining this plugin, I just don’t have as much time to devote to
   it. There hasn’t been a need to push an update so I haven’t updated the readme
   with a new supported WordPress version. If you have issues I’m happy to help 
   as much as I can.
