updates via wordpress

I am not sure if this is the correct forum our not so please bear with me a re-direct me if I am wrong.

I bought a theme a few weeks ago on theme forest. Without going too deep details about what went on the support staff and I agree to disagree and I don’t want them in my admin section of the website as they have not shown good faith in a previous support issue.

My question is this.

The theme I bought surprisingly enough does not have auto-updates through Envato which surprised me. The author directs you to use Envato Toolkit which has been depreciated and now is Envato market place. There is no way to update the theme using Envato market place so you are forced to return to the author who instructs you to make a ticket and their team will help. The team then will offer the update through an affiliate.:-)

I have installed hundreds of themes etc via FTP direct wp/admin and whatever. I have also done numerous updates but normally via auto-updates or by following the author’s directions.

I realise that I cant update the theme by installing the demo data again. But can I update the theme by downloading the latest copy and installing it again via FTP or what other processes without the loss of my personal work?

I have not made any special code as I cant. All I have done is photos, content and made some additional pages.

Just wondering if I could get some tips on this, please.
