 * I’ve had a wordpress blog on my site for a couple years now and I don’t think
   I have ever updated. On reading the recent story about a security issue I figured
   I better update.
 * I’m not sure what version I was using. It was 2.2 maybe?
 * Anyways, I was stupid. Mea culpa. I found a website that gave this update advice“
   if you haven’t updated to 2.8.3 yet), or download the new release from the download
   page and upgrade manually, overwriting your current install with the new files.”
 * My version of WP didn’t have an update button, so I downloaded the new version
   and overwrote my current install with the new files.
 * And that didn’t work. I’m afraid I totally fubared my blog, didn’t I?
 * Is there anything I can do to salvage anything? Is it possible I just need to
   modify a some files and have everything working again?
 * Thanks for any help anybody can give me.

 * did you make a backup, before you started?
 * whats your blog url?
 * did you get prompted to click a button to upgrade your database? if you never
   clicked the button, your database wasnt touched, and ideally, you ought to be
   able to just delete the newer files you uploaded and re-upload the files that
   match the version you had been using prior.

 * I did not make a backup before I started. I feel like an idiot for that.
 * I didn’t do anything to upgrade the database. Thanks for giving me a little hope
   🙂

 * upgrading an old blog should be done manually, and I recommend doing the upgrades
   in small steps, incrementally.
