I am trying to update the WordPress version to 4.9 and it is giving me this message.
Download failed.: The checksum of the file (a5ce8c489d7f50ddde3e0995e402d2cd) does not match the expected checksum value (7bbfb7a1970549b7068b310a3f67cf8d).

Installation Failed

How can I get it to work please?

Try disabling your plugins one by one, then try switching over to a different theme.

If these fail, try manually updating wordpress.

I cannot switch to a different theme as I will loose some stuff (don’t know what exactly). Will this work if I keep the same theme?

You won’t lose anything if you don’t delete the theme. Just change to the default WordPress theme and retest.

Although most of the time it’s just a plugin issue, rather than one with the theme.

Also you should probably back up everything before updating anyway (both files and the database).

Changing the theme will not address this error. The problem is that the download got corrupted. Try again in a little while. If that doesn’t help, do a manual update: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update
