# UPDATING WORDPRESS – PLUGINS

 * what’s best practice for upgrading ? wordpress first or plugins? i tried plugins
   first which caused no problems. then updating wp caused a problem which forced
   me to revert to backup and now starting over
 * current/backup wp = v 5.4.8
    desired wp = v5.8.2
 * plugins that need updating…

 * A “normal” update (5.x to 5.x+1) really doesn’t matter. A bigger jump, like your
   5.4 to 5.8 indicates that there will be a lot of changes. To be safe in that 
   circumstance, I’d deactivate the plugins that need updating, update wp core, 
   update the plugins, then re-activate them one at a time.
