I noticed that Updraft Plus put a warning on one of my sites that there were several scheduled tasks that were overdue.

This occurred on a personal VPS server (Ubuntu 14.04.3) that has multiple WP sites running on it. I have been running these sites with normal scheduled UpdraftPlus backups for over a year. The servers are all WP 5.5.x, with UpdraftPlus 2.16.34.x.

ALL of the sites running on that VPS are in the same state – none were backed up after 10 Sep 2020.

My first step was to manually trigger a backup. All seem to have completed without issue. (Whew!) Those sites are backed up on several different Dropbox and Google Drive accounts.

I next followed the link in the error message to the page that lists reasons that this could occur: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/my-scheduled-backups-do-nothing-backup-now-stops-midway/

    Ticking through the reasons:

1 & 2) Maintenance mode, no visitors. No – these sites seem to be working properly

    3) Scheduler explicitly disabled? No “DISABLE_WP_CRON” is not present in the wp_config file.

    4) Loopback connections. I have not (intentionally) changed any configs either in WP or on my host.

    5) Cron job
    6) Password-protected
    7) Find a new hosting company

I am reluctant to start changing a lot of things (such as trying 5, 6, 7) without understanding the cause since everything was working fine up to September…

    My questions:

    1) Any idea what might have caused all WP servers on a host to stop backups “simultaneously”?

    2) What’s a good test to perform to see if WP’s loopback connections are working (or not)? I have command-line and root access to the server.

    Many thanks!

    Hi,

Please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?
This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

I think I solved it on my own. Here’s what I did:

    1) I tried ping localhost and didn’t get a response.
    2) I then contacted my hosting company, who suggested that I restart networking on the localhost interface.
    3) I did, and ping localhost works again
    4) I went to the wp-admin page of one of the sites that doesn’t get much traffic. When I arrived at the UpdraftPlus settings page, it was already running the backup. Solved!

    TL;DR:

    a) Your diagnostics page is very good. Thanks.

    b) Perhaps you could suggest ping localhost as a test for item #4 (loopback connections)

    c) Is it possible to put “[SOLVED]” in the subject of this post so the next poor soul who has this trouble might find it?

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

Great – glad you got it fixed!

ww.wp.xz.cn don’t give us the power to modify topic titles (though I think the original poster does, possibly for a limited amount of time after posting only).

If you think UD is worth a 5-star review, please could you give us one? Good reviews help encourage people to use it, which helps us fund the staff, which helps us improve and provide support for it, etc. Thank you for anything you can do!
