 * We have GoDaddy hosted Managed WordPress websites using WordPress 5.1, Active
   Theme Twenty Twelve PHP version 7.2
    For Staging I updated UpdraftPlus from Version:
   1.16.5 to 1.16.6 without issue On the Public/production website I did things
   in a different order by starting with updating the Themes The update to the Updraft
   plugin failed and the website became unavailable / offline. This was the error
   message:
 * Update Failed: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”> 500 Internal
   Server Error Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or
   misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the
   server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the
   actions you performed just before this error. More information about this error
   may be available in the server error log
    I contacted GoDaddy support and they
   were able to restore the site from their backup and it is operational now. Is
   there a conflict with Theme Twenty Twelve ? How can we determine why the update
   failed and how to proceed with plugin and Theme updates?
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fupdraftplus-update-failed-500-internal-server-error%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Hi,
 * Possibly it could be the issue the connection broke while updating the plugin,
   leaving the update incomplete.
 * In this case you can manually update the plugin, To do this:
    1. Unzip the UpdraftPlus
   ZIP on your local machine, using a zip utility such as 7-zip. 2. Access your
   WordPress installation via FTP or your host’s filemanager. 3. Navigate to wp-
   content/plugins. Upload the UpdraftPlus folder here. 4. Go to the Plugins page
   on your WordPress dashboard. You should see UpdraftPlus in the list of plugins.
 * Thanks,
    Harshad
