 * I inherited the responsibility of being webmaster for a WordPress site (www.lloydkaufman.
   com). I’ve been doing custom web development for over a decade, but never used
   WordPress. I’ve been running into some problems and I think it has to do with
   the version that’s running. It says “2.0.5”. That seems really old, considering
   many widgets and things are for 2.9. How do I go about upgrading my WP version?
   How would that affect how the site currently looks? Would I have to redo everything
   from scratch? Thanks!

 * You will need incremental upgrades for your wordpress since you are using old
   version. All your data should remain intact and you should not require to redo
   everything.
 * Before you start upgrading, make sure that the theme which you are currently
   using is compatible with latest version.
 * Finally, do not forget to take complete backup (web contents and database) of
   your existing wordpress.

 * Once I back everything up, where do I go to get those incremental upgrades? Are
   they free? Is there a lot of work involved, or is it pretty easy/automated?
 * Thanks!!!

 * here’s a related post. Gives upgrade order that is generally agreed upon. Plus
   a link to archive WP downloads

 * Not automated until about the last one or two jumps.
 * The manual guide looks worse than it really is – scared the daylights out of
   me the first time – I had lots of Highlighter marks on the printed page. Once
   I figured out that there were a few files that were saved from one version to
   the next and not replaced and there are some directories that also remain the
   same from one to another.
 * I had to upgrade right out of the blocks as my host had a real old install that
   would not run the theme I wanted.
 * Print the instructions and make notes ahead of time (or at least I needed to)
 * Keep the faith and there are a lot of great folks in the forum that will help
   if you have problems or questions.
 * All software from WordPress.org has no charge.
 * Good luck & welcome
