Use Auth.net as gateway with third party processor

Can we use PMP through Authorize.net with a third party processor for upfront and recurring payments without any extensive development work? Does the third party processor have to manage the recurring payment stuff on their end (like having to create a subscription in Braintree?).

We’re trying to figure this out but a solution is being very elusive.
