User with author capabilities can't write posts

Hello folks, I’m having this weird problem: I created a new user giving him the role of author. Now, when the user signs in he sees that there is no Post menu on the left, only “dashboard”, “media” and “profile” are there. I tried disabling ALL the plugins and activating the Twenty Fourteen theme, still the same. I searched all over the internet but couldn’t find a solution. Please help!
