 * I am writing a plugin which I will submit to wordpress.org when it’s finished.
It’s a tool to make theme admin easier for web devs like myself.
 * Part of the requirements is that I need to display thumbnails and full size images
of a variety of themes available on wordpress.org
 * One solution to this is using the images available on i0.wp.com e.g.
 * The nice thing about them is the ?w=x prefix would allow me to show thumbs or
full size images depending on what’s required e.g. [https://i0.wp.com/themes.svn.wordpress.org/tdpersona/1.5.1/screenshot.png?w=100](https://i0.wp.com/themes.svn.wordpress.org/tdpersona/1.5.1/screenshot.png?w=100)
 * My question is, would it be frowned up to link to these images from my plugin?
I just wondered if there would be issues with using the i0.wp.com bandwidth.
 * It’s not for commercial gain as the plugin will be free, and the amount of downloads
will be a drop in the ocean to i0.wp.com but I thought I had better check… is
anyone reading this in a position to give me the go ahead?

 * These screenshots from other themes are not your own, and do not represent anything
about your plugin. These screenshots don’t sound like they are themes built using
your plugin, so as a consumer I would not want to see those screenshots when
looking at a plugin. I’d want to see screenshots of what the plugin itself has
   been used to build.
 * If it makes theme dev easier, why not just build a sample theme with it to show
off how easy it makes it and how great of a theme you can make with your plugin.
If the plugin is what you say it is, should be pretty easy right? 🙂

 * Thanks for your reply Patrick. I didn’t explain the purpose of the plugin very
clearly so I think there’s a bit of confusion as to why I want to use the screenshots.
Apologies for that, I’ll explain a bit better…
 * As a web dev I want to allow my clients to choose a selection of themes that
they would be happy using for their site. From that shortlist we’ll pick the
   best theme to suit them.
 * However, I don’t want to just let them pick any theme from the WP Theme Directory
because there may be some that I don’t want to work with or don’t like. Also,
I don’t want my clients to have to think about the more in-depth decision-making
such as last revision date, ratings, etc.
 * So my idea was being able to present a shortlist of themes (that I’ve selected
from the Themes Directory) to my client via a plugin and having a neat way of
presenting these to the client so they can choose whether or not they like each
   theme.
 * Now to be able to present each theme to the client via a screen included in my
plugin, I’m going to need an image of the theme – which is what I was getting
   at in the OP.

 * I’m not sure if that would be permitted or not. I would suggest maybe emailing
   [plugins@wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/using-i0wpcom-theme-screenshots-from-plugin/plugins@wordpress.org?output_format=md)
and give them the same explanation and see what the plugin review team’s thoughts
   are?

 * Thanks Patrick, just sent them an email. Will post a reply here when they get
   back to me.

 * An update … I emailed [plugins@wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/using-i0wpcom-theme-screenshots-from-plugin/plugins@wordpress.org?output_format=md)
and they said to use the themes api and the screen shots hosted by WP.
 * Thanks for your help 🙂
