 * I have installed the [official Docker image of WordPress](https://hub.docker.com/_/wordpress)
locally on my computer running Ubuntu to get familiar with the use of WordPress.
It is accessed via the _localhost_ on port _8080_.
 * My intended WordPress website on the Internet should have subdomains. I came
across WordPress Multisite, which apparently allows you to use a single WordPress
installation for multiple subdomains. That’s exactly what I want. I have edited
the file `wp-config.php` as described in the [WordPress handbook](https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/multisite/create-network/).
After that, I deactivated all plugins.
 * Activation of the Multisite feature subsequently fails with the following error
   message.

 * The server address of my local WordPress installation is **[http://localhost:8080](http://localhost:8080)**

 * try reviewing “Restrictions” at [https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/multisite/prepare-network/#:~:text=You%20cannot%20create%20a%20network%20in%20the%20following,uses%20a%20port%20number%20other%20than%20%E2%80%98%3A80%E2%80%99%2C%20%E2%80%98%3A443%E2%80%99](https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/multisite/prepare-network/#:~:text=You%20cannot%20create%20a%20network%20in%20the%20following,uses%20a%20port%20number%20other%20than%20%E2%80%98%3A80%E2%80%99%2C%20%E2%80%98%3A443%E2%80%99).

 * Since my WordPress address (URL) is `localhost`, I assume that Docker with its
many settings cannot help me out.

 * It looks like you’re currently accessing your WordPress site using the default
localhost:8080 address. To effectively set up and use a Multisite network locally,
it’s recommended to configure virtual hosts. This will allow you to access your
site using custom domains, such as customdomain.com or subdomain.customdomain.
com, which are essential for a multisite setup.

 * Hi [@parthbackstagedev](https://wordpress.org/support/users/parthbackstagedev/),
 * Thanks for your advice. I first need to find out how to configure virtual hosts
   for my WordPress Docker container.
