 * Hi All,
 * I am new to using wordpress, and it seems as though something in wrong with the
   visual editor for our website.
 * When going to edit a page in Firefox, Chrome, or Safari, the visual editor does
   not display any text, but when highlighting in the box, shows white colored HTML
   code.
 * The visual editor works just fine on Internet Explorer.
 * Any Ideas?

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * And why are you using an older version of WordPress?

 * I will try the plugins idea.
 * Our theme was custom built… Is there a way to switch to a default theme, and
   still be able to go back to the one we had built?
 * We’re still in 3.4.2 because last time I tried using the auto updater, it completely
   crashed our website, and the person who created the theme and website, had to
   completely reinstall the website all the way down to the databases.

 * Yes – via Appearance -> Themes. Any theme change is usually reversible.

 * That sounds like you have a problem somewhere. But you could have an even greater
   problem if you do not keep WordPress up to date. Right now, your site is running
   a very significant risk of being hacked. And cleaning up after a hack will make
   your previous upgrade issues look like child’s play.,..

 * Could the major problem that’s causing the crash when updated be the reason that
   the visual editor is acting funny?

 * It’s certainly possible. My money is currently on your theme as the culprit.

 * So I switched from the campaign theme we were using to the standard twenty 11
   theme and the visual editor started working again. So what does that mean (short
   f the fact that the campaign theme is causing the issues)

 * I’m afraid so. 🙁 Best guess, the theme is implementing its own jQuery in such
   a way that it is interfering with the editors.
 * I think your best way forward (if you want to keep the theme) is to to go back
   to its developer for an upgrade or [hire someone else](http://jobs.wordpress.net/)
   to carry out the work. The level of coding work needed will probably be well
   beyond the scope of the support we are able to provide in these forums.
