# Webhost location

 * In order to use WordPress I need a webhost. There are thousasnds all over the
   world. Does it make sense to choose a webhost based in the country where the 
   great majority of one’s visitors will be? will the connection be faster? Thanks
   in anticipation.

 * Some hosting providers allows you to choose which country/state you want to use
   for the server to host your website while others do not. So hence, the country
   should not be relevant to which hosting provider to go with. In one country, 
   all the hosting providers could be really lousy!
 * So do your research and pick the best hosting provider. This site does list [some hosting providers](http://wordpress.org/hosting/),
   but do your own research though!

 * Thanks. But how does one judge which is best (or at least acceptable)? Is there
   a site where you can view “performance” for different companies? I am not after
   anything whizbang but I don’t want lots of downtime etc either.
 * I assume from your response that it would be better to select a host with servers
   in my target country?

 * Like I said, you have to do your own research. You can do a simple Google search
   for “best hosting providers in Sweden” (or whatever country you are in).

 * You are better off hosting in your target country, but overall it doesn’t make
   that much of a difference compared to a lot of other SEO factors out there. If
   you can find a decent host that’s in your country, then use it. If you can’t 
   look somewhere else.
 * As far as finding a reputable host… that’s actually a lot harder. I haven’t seen
   any “review” or “top host” sites on the net that are anything more then just 
   SPAM’y affiliate link lists that don’t offer any real reviews, just promote the
   ones that pay more commision. Don’t believe anything on these sort of sites.

 * Choosing the target country is the best option for the User. However if you’re
   going to be making updates regularly you might want to consider something closer
   to your location.
 * I currently run a few WordPress installs on Linode (Tokyo) servers (I’m in Australia)
   and to bypass the long latency I end up pushing code to github/bitbucket then
   cloning the repositories onto my Linode server in Tokyo
