The resulting testing showed that it was a mime-type not being attached. It’s probably a server/PHP configuration problem on your server. WP Offload Media looks to use the built-in WordPress mime-type detection routine which supports WebP, but not if your server isn’t configured to correctly use it. Shane and I just went through a look at everything that had changed and managed to find a function that we had disabled in between 7.2.1 and 7.2.2 when testing something for someone. So, we have re-enabled that and Shane is doing a release tomorrow. I have a WP Multisite setup with WP Offload Media. After upgrading to 7.2.2, the webp version could not be generated.
