 * Hi,
 * I really need some help. I’ve just moved my website over to be self-hosted, using
   Bluehost after having run on WordPress.com for the past two years.
 * The site is [mlsgb.com](https://mlsgb.com).
 * I’m not a technical whizz and have no real understanding of coding but am really
   worried about the current state of my website, which is completely down.
 * It has been a bit of a nightmare to set up having transferred all content over
   from WordPress.com but it was in good shape at the weekend. Then, since the site
   has gone live, I have had nothing but problems.
 * Now I can’t even access my wp-admin dashboard. I’m receiving an internal server
   error whenever I click on anything and my site is showing the same problem.
 * I’ve been in contact with Bluehost but they’ve not really been able to solve
   the issue.
 * Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
 * Thanks!

 * Try:
    – switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current
   theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder
   name using [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever file management
   application your host provides.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

 * I have reset the plugins successfully but am not getting any further.
 * Site is still down and showing an Internal Server Error.
 * Really worried that I should never have moved to self-hosted if these sort of
   problems were going to be consistent.
 * What else can I do to get my website back up and running?

 * The site seems to be loading fine now
    [https://mlsgb.com/](https://mlsgb.com/)
 * Site load time seems kind of slow at the moment.

 * UPDATE:
 * Received really helpful support from Bluehost, who corrected a faulty htaccess
   file to get the site back up and running again.
 * The problem is, like you say Luke, that it is running really slowly compared
   to when we were hosted on WordPress.com.
 * Is this because the Shared server we are using with Bluehost cannot cope with
   the amount of content on our site?
 * Any advice as to speed the site up would be really useful.
 * Thanks.

 * [@mlsgbcom](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mlsgbcom/)
 * The two ways to improve site speed is static caching and image optimization.
 * [https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/)

   [https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-fastest-cache/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-fastest-cache/)
   [https://wordpress.org/plugins/autoptimize/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/autoptimize/)
   [https://wordpress.org/plugins/rocket-lazy-load/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/rocket-lazy-load/)
 * The first one to test would be time before first byte, since this will be the
   actual server response time, which should hopefully be around 125-149ms or so.
 * [http://www.webpagetest.org/](http://www.webpagetest.org/)
 * Your site size does not look that large at around 1.1mb or so.
