  • We are planning to redesign our website. We will be utilizing a new domain and service provider and building a new WordPress website instead of our current Static HTML website.

Please tell me the chronology and whether this is correct:

    1. Purchasing a new domain and hosting from the new service provider (we would want the domain name to be different from the live website , i.e staging site)
    2. Installing WordPress, designing, and uploading content
    3. DNS settings, pointing towards the new website.

Also please let me know whether the staging site is provided by the hosting provider or by WordPress. Thank you

If you’re completely changing your domain name and hosting provider, yes that’s how I’d do it.

One step 3 though, I’d go with forwarding the old domain to the new domain through your domain registrar. That will communicate to Google and other search engines that the content has moved permanently.

WordPress itself doesn’t provide staging functionality, and not all hosting providers do either. But, if your hosting provider doesn’t offer staging functionality, there are several plugins that can provide that for WordPress instead.
