I had also forgotten my username and password. * 1. Then, when I tried to use my website again, I was not able to as it was producing a Critical Error message and the webhost was of no help. * 2. I then moved my hosting to another host, and the error persisted, * 3 so I did a fresh insall of WordPress 5.53 (since i had read about some problems of your users after upgrading to 5.6) , and then * 4. I tried to restore an Updraft Plus backup which I had downloaded to my local folder, and kept on getting a wrong username and password message (so I concluded that Upraft also saves the usernmme and password). * 5. I searched all my folders and emails and tried all known usernames and password combinations but nothing worked initially. * 6. Then I tried another fresh wordpress 5.53 install and this time the full backup( themes, plugins database), using the Updraft Restore feature, partially worked, but it did not restore any of my categories, etc., which makes the restored site useless. * So after doing all this stuff for 2 whole days, I am still nowhere near to getting my site restored with the Updraft backup. You can try resetting the password if you forgot or if you have access to the database, you can manually change password on your account to regain access. * “more than 2-1/2 hours later, it is still in the Verifying stage, and obviously, it is not working What to do now?” > It appears that the restoration process have been timed out or killed off. To verify, can you please send us full copy of the restoration log? You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your site via FTP.
