 * Weird question: I have several websites on a new hosting account. I set them
   up normally, yet realized later they are autoforwarding from [http://mysites.com](http://mysites.com)
   to [https://mysites.com](https://mysites.com).
 * I didn’t do anything to set that up?
 * Is that something new in WordPress? Hosting? Browsers? Something I missed?

 * It’s something that a lot of hosting providers are starting to push, so the change
   was probably from them (WordPress itself doesn’t have the access to do that on
   its own).
 * Don’t worry, you’re in good company. Over half of the known sites on the web
   are HTTPS now, it’s more secure, and WordPress will eventually require it for
   some features.

 * Are hosts switching accounts over to HTTPS on their own, without telling customers?
 * I have seen [Google will be increasingly warning Chrome users away if a site is not https](https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinmurnane/2017/08/22/chrome-will-soon-warn-you-about-unsecure-websites-should-you-be-concerned/#24bceba317e3),
   so that’s great, but I’ve asked my hosting company’s tech support about it repeatedly
   and their response may be characterized as, “Huh?”

 * Not the hosts I use, but there are thousands of hosts out there and I can’t keep
   track of all of them.
 * All I can promise is that WordPress didn’t do it on its own, it simply can’t.
   Switching to HTTPS requires acquiring a valid SSL certificate (which your site
   has) either from your hosting provider or a certificate authority, none of which
   WordPress can do.
 * The only possibility is that your hosting provider did it, someone with access
   to your hosting account did it, or you did it.

 * Thanks very much, James.
 * I’m certain I didn’t set it up, but have wondered if hosts would just set that
   up (to please Google, impress customers) via [letsencrypt.org](https://letsencrypt.org)
   or other free SSL certificate organizations.
 * Thanks again!
