All is well other than my surprise when I went to a site and saw a BPS notice saying I had an AddHandler in .htaccess but not in my Custom Code…and then I discovered all the Custom Code boxes were empty at that one site. My Custom .htaccess was still fine, of course, and I had definitely not done anything I know about that could have caused the Custom Code boxes to be emptied…so I wonder what you might think might have happened there.

    Many thanks!

That check just means that you need to add the handler that is in your root htaccess file to Custom Code. Why it was not already there may be because this is a new site and the handler had not been saved yet or maybe you uninstalled and reinstalled BPS? Other than those logical guesses I can’t think of any other reason the handler code would not be saved to Custom Code.

I can’t think of any other reason the handler code would not be saved to Custom Code.

It had been saved and had been there for quite a while, and neither can I think of any reason other than what you have mentioned for all Custom Code in every box to suddenly be missing. I will keep my eye out for Gremlins and let you know if I happen to see any…

    Many thanks!

Thought of one more possibility – your database was restored to a previous time when the custom code did not exist/was not saved yet.

That is my oldest site (a little under three years) and the only database that has yet to ever be replaced. I had recently tried a new database cleanup and optimizer plugin there, but saw nothing odd anywhere until this morning. Yesterday I had gone in and manually changed one user display name in a half-dozen places, but I cannot imagine how that would have affected Custom Code storage.

I don’t want to point any fingers, but it could be possible that the db cleanup deleted the custom code that was saved to your db. You can test that theory by saving custom code and doing another db cleanup. If the custom code disappears again then let me know the name of the db cleanup and optimizer plugin so I can test it.

That was the WUCO – WP Ultimate Cleanup & Optimization plugin, and no, it does not seem to be the culprit. I just re-activated it and let it do everything it can do and the Custom Code is still fine.

I will keep trying to remember back a few days and let you know of any other related possibilities that might come to mind.
