 * Hey, i need some help, please.
I have several widgets in the sidebar, which has
always worked very well. Today, I changed an existing download link in a widget
in the code view, and suddenly the widget was moved to the footer area. WordPress
ignores reassigning the widget to the sidebar, as well as assigning it to “inactive
widgets”; it always remains in the footer area. I created a new widget as a test,
assigned it to the sidebar, and it also suddenly moved directly to the footer.
This has always worked without any problems before. We use the Classic Widget
plugin. I can’t verify the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? For now the only
solution was to delete the widget. :-/

 * I don’t see which widget you’re referring to—they all seem to be visible on the
left sidebar. Which one exactly are you talking about?
 * By the way, there is also a general German-language support forum here: [https://de.wordpress.org/support/forums/](https://de.wordpress.org/support/forums/)

 * Thank you, for now i stay here, not needed to spam my stuff. 😉
   I disabled the
moved widget because it doesn’t fit visually in the footer at all. Give me 5
   minutes, then I’ll recreate it.

 * Good question. I didn’t see any changes after your last post. Now I see the widget
   sitting there in the footer.
 * However, I also notice that you are using a 10-year-old theme called “Simone”.
It’s possible that this is no longer compatible with the current version of WordPress.
Nevertheless, I installed it and can’t see any problems with the placement of
   the widgets.
 * It’s possible that another plugin you’re using is interfering. Try deactivating
all the others except Classic Widgets and then test it.

 * This problem is slowly driving me crazy. I have gradually deactivated all plugins,
without success. As soon as I change a widget from the sidebar and save it, it
is immediately moved to the footer. Now I’m ruining my entire sidebar with it.
🙁 Every new widget, regardless of type, also goes directly to the footer.
 * We have another website in our self-help association ([https://www.landeshilfsmittelzentrum.de/](https://www.landeshilfsmittelzentrum.de/))
that has the same structure, same theme, same plugins, but the problem doesn’t
   occur there.

 * Now it gets strange: when I make widget changes or additions using the Customizer,
it works. The other method doesn’t work anymore. Can anyone explain why this
   might be?
 * _Edit:_
And another observation: In the Widgets section of the backend, there
is a function in the top right corner called “Enable/Disable Accessibility Mode.”
If I disable this, I can assign the widget normally in the backend again. Is
this function new? I’ve never noticed it before.
 * I use Classic Widgets and Dynamic Widgets as widget plugins.

 * I tried to recreate this. I think your discovery of “Enable/Disable Accessibility
Mode” is crucial. This feature has been available for classic widgets for seven
   years: [https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/commit/6a4b2a022ae66855bc7e02490901ba7ed2690624](https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/commit/6a4b2a022ae66855bc7e02490901ba7ed2690624)
 * By default, it is set to disabled. This allows you to arrange the widgets using
drag & drop. If you set it to “enabled” you have to edit the widgets and select
the desired position in the individual sections in the edit mask. In my test,
this did not work when trying to move a widget from the footer to the sidebar
in the theme you are using.
 * Do you normally have it in this mode? If so, that would explain the problem.
It works fine in disabled mode or via the customizer.
 * There is already a ticket for this in Core Trac: [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/64380](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/64380)–
someone has already come up with a solution, but it still needs to be tested
before it can be included in one of the next WP updates.
