@matoca – Have you checked if there are conflicts with other active plugins?

The only thing I have done since Saturday with the slideshow, and this was only tangential, was add two new photos to the gallery. Nothing, especially plugins, has been added, deleted or had settings changed.

I should add that this problem occurred immediately after updating NextGEN plugin. If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn’t have updated it.

@matoca – Having changed nothing else does not preclude that there could still be a conflict with another plugin or your current theme. Did you actually check if that was the case?

I have a logger in my dashboard that keeps track of everything that is done. Yesterday at 3:09pm Eastern, it shows that I upgraded NextGEN. I saw the problem immediately after that and posted here not too long after that.

If there is now a conflict, it was caused by installing the NextGEN upgrade. I try to stay patient but eventually if a plugin just continues to be an issue I uninstall the plugin that was having an issue with their own upgrade and find something more reliable. I just don’t have time to re-invent the wheel each time this happens.

I’ve used NextGEN for several years, long before it affiliated with Photocrati. So I am not a new user. I love the product and it integrates nicely with my paid theme. It has provided me with an ability to fine tune photo management that fits my needs. I don’t want to uninstall it, but if I can’t get this to work in a few days, it is gone. I had been thinking of upgrading to the paid version. Would that get me better troubleshooting? I am not opposed to spending some money in the right places.

@matoca – As a NextGEN Pro and/or NextGEN Plus subscriber we may be able to provide different avenues of troubleshooting but it will not guarantee we will be able to sort this out any easier and upgrading to use NextGEN Pro and/or NextGEN Plus will not in itself correct issues you may be experiencing with NextGEN Gallery.

I’ve spent most of yesterday and today trying to find the problem. I have gotten nowhere. Is there some way to install the previous version?

@matoca – We do provide this article on our website: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/how-to-rollback-a-version/

    Thanks!

Thank you for the link and the excellent instructions.
The slideshow worked as soon as I activated 2.0.66.

When will the next version be repaired? I can’t install the updates until I know that the original issue with the HTML5 slideshows will be fixed.

    Thank you, Patrice

@matoca – Without being able to recreate the issue you were seeing it may be some time before we are able to provide a solution for your specific issue.

All I can suggest at this time is to continue trying new stable releases as they become available and/or submit a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) if you update, the issue returns and you do not roll back to a previous version.

    Thanks!

    Cais,
I’ve uninstalled the update and installed the previous version twice now. Both times the previous version restores functionality to the HTML5 slideshow. It also returns functionality back to bbPress “Details.” This has failed both times also. While running the update the only way I can get the slideshow to work is switch to a flash slideshow.

I am going to have to say that the update is causing this problem, nothing else has changed.

@matoca – Thanks for the update. Have you looked at our latest public beta release … see this page: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/nextgen-gallery-latest-beta/

We believe to have corrected most (all?) of these issues in that release. If it doesn’t help, please send us a Bug Report with specific details.

    Thanks!

I decided that there had been enough upgrades in the past few months to this that it might be safe to try installing the update to 2.0.66.29 (I was still using 2.0.66 successfully.)

As soon as I did that my slideshow stopped working again and Details are not working in bbPress.

I wish that you could explain to me why this just won’t work with the update? That is the reason I use this plugin, for the slideshow. Both the slideshow and the details in bbPress are more important to me than upgrading to the most recent version of the plugin.

@matoca – I wish I had an answer for you on this. We are finding it very difficult to ensure a compatible environment with bbPress installations. This may be one of those cases with your site where we have not found the root cause to offer a work-around or more importantly a consistent solution to implement.

    Cais,
I have been unwilling to upgrade since ver 2.0.66 because of this issue with the HTML5 slideshow failing to load on my blog. I have continued to ignore all upgrade notices.

I wanted you to know that, while trying to resolve another issue with plugins in my wordpress installation, Gallery was updated to 2.0.66.37 without my active intervention. I thought I was going to have to go through the hassle of reinstalling 2.0.66.

However I just checked the slideshow in the sidebar to see if it was not working and was surprised to see it is now working properly! Whatever you did with this upgrade that deactivated flash (which I never used) has resolved the problem.

So I am on the current version 2.0.66.37 and the slideshow works.
    Thank you, Patrice
