Hi @sydchako
In WordPress 5.8, the widgets screen now uses the block editor. Maybe your current theme is not supporting WordPress 5.8. Try switching to a default theme and see if you can see the widgets screen.
@simrandeep thanks for the response. Still not working even with the default theme.
May I know which theme are you using?
I use oceanwp. After your suggestion I tried all the WordPress “twenty something” themes.
Try disabling all plugins: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/cant-edit-posts-after-5-8/#post-14687728
The https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/classic-widgets/ plugin may also help.The widgets screen seems to be working fine in the Oceanwp theme. Try deactivating all the plugins and see if it works.
Thank you @simrandeep and @pidengmor. I tried everything you said. I finally managed to solve the problem by using the https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/classic-widgets/ Classic plugin to disable block editor as suggested by @pidengmor and everything is ok now.
block was affected by errors and may not function properly. check the developer tools for more details.
Please let me knowAs of WP 5.8, block editor is enabled by default in widgets,
you can disable this by using the filter below:add_filter( 'use_widgets_block_editor', '__return_false' );
@islamialap I use a chrome on android a lot when updating my site. I dont know how to check developer tools on android. However I tried to enable block editor on my PC browser today. There were no errors. I think the issue is coming when I use my phone browser.
@salihkulangara thanx for the solution.
@salihkulangara Thank you for the solution.

I have the same problem since updating. I was using one of the default themes. I’ve tried all themes from 12 to 20, same problem. I’ve tried Firstyme and Highstarter, same problem. I inserted the line remove_theme_support( ‘widgets-block-editor’ ); into the function.php, it worked for widgets, but I still couldn’t customise. Tried changing the theme, this line has no effect.
Seems to me it is a bug in the update, connected with the blocks in widgets feature, and needs to be fixed asap.
Any more suggestions, I’d be most grateful.
