    So, how do I configure this new version on a Windows box? It doesn’t work automatically, but that is probably because this server uses web.config rather than htaccess. I did create the wordfence-waf file which the plugin seems to think is okay (it doesn’t ask about it anymore), but there does not seem to be a php.ini and when I create one in the root, I still have no working installation.

    On a sidenote, can I just not use this firewall function? I maintain a website on a server I have no access to and which does not have a writable htaccess (I know that’s pretty dumb but it is how it is). Can I just keep using Wordfence without the new firewall?

    Sorry for asking two questions in one thread. The IIS server question is the most pertinent.

    You don’t have to enable the new firewall. On the firewall page, select disabled on the big button.

    Thanks for the reply. I’ll have a look at the instructions in the link. The disable firewall settings don’t save, but I hope to get it working anyway.

    Hi Roy,

    Wordfence is not officially supported on Windows platforms (see https://docs.wordfence.com/en/Wordfence_system_requirements ), but we’re working on a fix for the issue where firewall settings cannot be saved on Windows servers, which will be included in the next release.

    In the meantime, you can add this line to wp-config.php to disable the firewall feature:
    define('WFWAF_ENABLED', false);

    If you’ve already enabled the “Extended Protection” of the firewall, add the code to the wordfence-waf.php file instead, just below the “<?php” line.

    Other Wordfence features will still work normally in this case.

    The new ‘dismiss’ function did its job, so I got rid of the ‘nag screen’. It would be nice to be able to use Wordfence on IIS though, so I’m looking forward for the new release.
