• Hi, I have just clicked on to update my woocommerce on my dash board and behold it has all disappeared from my website, yep woocommerce is no longer there and all the products have gone as well, now I know you tech guys know what the solution is and will have a way over this, but as I am, so to speak, a dummy at this can you walk me through how to put all this back on my site? By the way I have this on the top of my dashboard as well “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now”. This I have tried and no change. Would this have something to do with it?
    Kind regards
    Brian

Hi Jespermeyer, well I got rid of this “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now”.By updating the SEO plug in. As far as the woocommerce goes I have a back up in drop box, well at least I thought I had, when I went to have a look at it, it wasn’t there so I’m doing another one now just to see if I can see what the problem is, maybe. I have this message also in the box at the bottom of the wpb2d drop box plug in ” Warning: scandir(D:\Hosting\11540877\html\,D:\Hosting\11540877\html\) [function.scandir]: Access is denied. (code: 5) in D:\Hosting\11540877\html\wp-content\plugins\wordpress-backup-to-dropbox\Views\wpb2d-file-tree.php on line 36. If any one has any ideas please through them this way, also trying to see if there is a repair package for this as well. I will let you know how I get on Jesper.

    Hi,

I managed to resolve my problem today.
I tried to install it again, but was notified that the woo commerce folder already existed.
I renamed it to .old and managed to install the new version again.

I found that all data still was there, only problem was the menu which I also managed to resolve.

I did afterwards manage to install a backup software and send the backup to google drive.
Hopefully it will be there when I need it.

I will definitely try a full recovery to a different server – just top ensure it’s working.

    Good luck with your challenges.

    Kind regards

Well done Jester, Now that’s what happened to me when I went to reinstall. Now it seams to me that you know what you are doing, could you tell me how you did it step by step! these things I’m still learning, building a website is one thing, resolving problems is another.
    Brian

    Hi again,

    I’m also learning.
Until 3 weeks ago I had never touched a wordpress site 😉

I will try to explain what I did, please let me know it you need any more info.

    1) after the update failed with the exact same error as you I went into plugins –> add new and. Tried to install woocommerce 2.1.5
    2) this failed and said that the folder already existed.
    3) I noticed down the path
    4) then I made an FTP connection and renamed the woocommerce folder to woocommerce.old
    5) restarted my browser
    6) locked back on to the admin interface and tried to reinstall woocommerce 2.1.5
    7) this worked and I activated it
    8) it succeeded and all my configuration and products was back as this is in the database and not the HTML files.

My menus was messed up as the only challenge.
Let me know if you have the same error

Hope this also resolves your problems.

Jesper, how did you make the FTP connection and rename it, yes I am that bad.

    Hi,

You must consult your hosting provider to get information about how to FTP to your server.

It will require user Id and a password.

With FTP you get access to all files installed by WordPress.

When you have the use rid and password I use FileZilla (a free FTP program) to browse me to this folder.

    Hope it helps

Hi Jesper thanks for your reply, I think you have had a lot of experience at this type of work?. OK I also have filezilla and have my wordpress files and fodders here but which one do I change the title on? On the local site side or the Remote side or both. Then did you go back into wordpress dashboard, plug ins, install woocommerce, remember I’m a dummy at this.
    Kind regards

I could write a book on the problems I have had in the last week or so with my website.

I am now having problems with this/ Could not get directory info. Can you please help me with this, my website has gone from bad to worse, First my paypal not work in my shop then I do an update plugin for woocommerce and loose my shop, products and pages from my website and dashboard, then I try to go into my SQL and it won’t recognise my log in detail ( user name and pass word) then I loose my site altogether now I can’t get into my FTP file manager. I’m thinking of scrapping it altogether and starting again.

Hi, This ticket I have sent to godaddy to try and get my website back http://www.feedinternational.org, it has now completely disappeared altogether and trying to find someone to talk me through all this has not yet happened, I have seen some good tutorials for help but when it comes to wp_config_example php, when I do find it is not the same as what I have, so it comes to a dead end, so this is why I may just start another site, it could end up quicker.

    Hi,

    Sorry for the late reply!
I went to a meeting right after work yesterday, and have therefore not been online.

This is exactly what I did.

    On the remote (server side)
    Browse to the folder. /wp-content/plugins
Here right click on the folder woocommerce and select Rename. Enter the name woocommerce_crashed and push enter.

Then I went back to my worpress admin page –> plugins and reinstalled the woocommerce plugin.

    Hope it helps

Hi, Jesper, Thank’s again for your support in all of this, I’m now trying to sort it out with my host godaddy, where has every thing gone, and at the same time starting another website, it has become an absolute mess ever since I did the up date on woocommerce, what makes it worse is that I’m lost when it comes to trouble shooting like this, I have a lot to learn.
    Kind regards
    Brian

There hasn’t been much help here 😞
Hope it works out for you.

If you trust me I will gladly log on to your site and try what I did, but I cannot guarantee that it will work but my best guess is that it will as the data still should be in the SQL database.

It will require that you supply me with FTP address, username and password + website address inkl admin password.

This I off course sensitive info and should be shared here.

May I suggest you visit Lynda.com?
They have some really great video instructions of how to learn wordpress. This is where I started mid February and build my site by following the videos.

I think you can sign up for a month trial (require credit card) but you can cancel within a month and get all for free.

Hope it works out for you.

Hi Jesper, Once again I am indebted to you for your all help and patients, I will certainly sign up with Lynda.com. There must be thousands of people like me out here that have followed instructions on how to build a wordpress website but have not learnt the basics of it all, what do I do if this go’s wrong, how do I put it rite, how do I trouble shoot the problems, these are the issues we do not learn, and it is through good people like your self that help us, you are like teachers teacher to us, but I feel that I should now at least make the effort to learn more of these things as well from people like your self. youtube could do with trouble shooting tutorials, how to fix it when it goes wrong. I am willing to give you the information, I trust you enough to do this, where would like me to send it.
    Kind regards
    Brian
