 * I logged on to my 3.9.2 WP dashboard this morning and had a message about updating
   the database.
 * How the hell did WP update it self to 4.0 automatically? I thought it ONLY did
   this for smaller incremental updates like 3.9.1 to 3.9.2, not for bigger updated
   like 3.9 to 4.0.

 * It doesn’t auto update major versions, unless you have specifically changed something
   to force it to do so, or unless your web host upgraded it for you (some do).

 * That is what I thought about major update versions. And I installed WP manually,
   so it shouldn’t have done this. I will have to set it not to update automatically
   if this happens again.

 * Did you set any custom defines to configure the auto updates?

 * I just checked the backup of my 3.9.2 wp-config.php file and there are none,
   so I will add the following to ensure this never happens again.
 * fine( ‘WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE’, minor );
 * Thanks for your help.

 * This happened to me too for two different client websites. Nothing was set to
   tell WP to update major versions, and my company hosts these clients so it wasn’t
   a host automated update.
 * What the heck is going on?
