# WordPress 4.3.1 – install failed – Cannot Create Directory

 * I’ve trie this update with two websites I am working on and both have resulted
   in the following error.
 * • “Downloading update from [https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/en_CA/wordpress-4.3.1.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/en_CA/wordpress-4.3.1.zip…)
   
   Unpacking the update… Could not create directory. Installation Failed”
 * Then, after this I am unable to upload any new media, getting this error.
    • ““
   test_image.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error The uploaded file could 
   not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2015/09.”
 * How can this be fixed and why have no previous updates had this issue that I 
   am aware of?

 * For some reason, if the auto update does not work on your server, please try **
   MANUALLY** updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your
   computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders **EXCEPT the
   wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory.** You may need to delete the
   old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading
   the new ones. Read the [Manual Update ](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
   directions first.
    –**Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything(
   including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really
   goes wrong.**
