WordPress account Vs WordPress on a host

Hi all,

I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find the answer I was looking for.

I’m thinking of using wordpress for a site, but I wanted to try it out first before I went and paid for a host.

What are the differences between having an account/blog with wordpress, and putting wordpress on your own hosted server?
